Take a break from the chaos of Rome with a Tuscan holiday. Sample fine Tuscan wines and cheeses and enjoy spectacular architecture, indescribably beautiful views, a typical Gourmet Tuscan lunch served in a spectacular setting.
Our tour will focus on the famous Val D'Orcia region, visiting the historic hill towns of Montepulciano, Pienza and the vineyards of Montalcino. We'll explore winding streets, catch beautiful views of rolling hills from city walls, stop at a typical Tuscan farm for lunch and have plenty of time left over for sampling world-famous foods and wine - all locally produced. If you have a taste for Tuscany but just a short time in Italy, this tour is for you!
A comfortable air-conditioned bus collects us in Rome and by mid-morning we're in the ancient Etruscan town of Montepulciano. We'll tour the town's most important sights from the exposed brick Duomo and the main square to Punch's Tower where Punch (without Judy) strikes his bell from the clock tower every hour. We'll see ancient Etruscan wells and venture deep into medieval wine cellars still used today. We'll have a bit of free time for photo ops before we're back on the bus to our next stop, the vineyards of Montalcino!
Our arrival in the area of Montalcino is perfectly timed to leave us at Sant'Antimo Abbey. Lose yourself in ancient rituals after taking some time to enjoy the view over some of Tuscany's most beautiful vineyards. This is where Italy's best wine, Brunello di Montalcino, is produced and we'll have a chance to enjoy an exemplary bottle on the next leg of our journey and a sure highlight - lunch.
The bus will take us out of town to a typical Tuscan farm where we will be wined and dined with the finest local produce. We will start lunch with a winetasting of three locally-produced, world-famous wines including a Brunello di Montalcino produced onsite and a Maremma from Querciarossa. Wines will be accompanied by bruschetta with extra virgin olive oil produced onsite. Lunch will be accompanied by three more glasses of wine - a Rosso di Montalcino produced Poggio il Castellare, a Campo della Paura Morellini from Querciarossa and a Santo il Faggeto. The menu in Tuscany will feature a starter comprising local specialties such as panzanella, salami, capocollo, wild boar sausage, Tuscan pecorino cheese, bruschetta with tomatoes and bruschetta with cannellini beans. Main courses will be pasta with tomatoes, chilli and garlic and a chickpea salad. For dessert will have the house specialty or cantucci biscuits. Lunch is especially sweet when you know so much of it has been grown, processed and prepared in this very place!
Back on the bus your guide will prepare you for our next stop - Pienza. You will hear how this World Heritage site was conceived by Pope Pius II as a "utopian village" and get information on sites you may want to visit, such as the two Renaissance palaces and the beautiful Duomo. Pienza is a small town so we'll split up here and take some time to wander alone, enjoying the serenity that is still true to the Pope's vision today. Marvel at the ancient architecture, take in views of the rolling countryside beyond or get hopelessly, wonderfully lost in the town's winding streets. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to make time to sample Pienza's most important product - pecorino cheese.
With full bellies and bags packed with wine, cheese and pici pasta, we'll meet back at the bus for a comfortable and scenic drive back to Rome. Take a well-deserved nap, watch the country fly past or spend the time planning your next visit to Tuscany - because one visit is never enough!

Very much enjoyed the day spent with Kylie as our guide to Tuscany. She was very personable and knowledgeable, never boring! Lots of little aha moments throughout the trip. Only regret was the minimal amount of time spent in each city/stop. The rest stops were appreciated however, the stops in the city were too short to see all that we would have liked.

Ana was outstanding!! Very knowledgeable and organized. If I had my own company I would probably steal her from you .. but nonethe...less the trip was quite an enjoyable experience the food was great and so was the wine. I would love to come and do this trip all over again. more
The bus was comfortable and the tour guide, Andrew from Australia, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The itinerary was just... right, and the lunch and wine was quite nice! The only real disappointment was the weather. Up in in Montepulciano we were in a cloud and could hardly see anything, but the local guide was extremely pleasant and vivacious in her presentation none the less. more

It was a great day in Tuscany. Our tour guide, Sarah was exceptional. We met some wonderful people and took in breathtaking views.... Our tour consisted of a walking tour with some history for towns in the area, a brief stop at an old abbey and then lunch with wine. I'd fully recommend the tour to anyone more

We decided to do this tour at the last minute, as we had done most of what we wanted to do in Rome and had seen the coast. We took... our kids (ages 12, 11, 7) and we all very much enjoyed it. Our guide, Peter, was fantastic. He kept us very engaged on the bus ride, pointing out things along the way. The stop in Montepulciano was fantastic. It is definitely somewhere we'd like to go back to. Our guide there was wonderful and it was a neat town to see. We loved seeing the Castle, and the winery / luncheon couldn't have been any better. The food and ambience were fabulous. We loved our afternoon stop at Pienza as well, and brought home some pecorino cheese. It was the perfect tour to feel like we really had seen "all" of Tuscany in just 1 day. Villages, winery, scenery --- what more could you ask for? Highly recommend to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of Rome for a day. more
