Discover the UNESCO acclaimed ruins of Pompeii with an official guide, followed by a trek to the crater of Mt. Vesuvius*, the still active volcano that brought life here to a fiery end in 79 AD, all on this incredible day trip from Rome by private coach.
Join us on this comprehensive and fascinating tour of Pompeii and Vesuvius* to discover why this UNESCO World Heritage Site and the volcano that made it all possible continue to shock and fascinate the 2.6 million people who venture here each year from all over the world.
After a comfortable transfer from Rome by private air-conditioned coach, you’ll find yourself sitting in the ominous shadow of Mt. Vesuvius* at the now ruined city of Pompeii, once a sprawling metropolis of shops, forums, houses, restaurants, gymnasiums and entertainment. Walk Pompeii's main streets just as its ancient inhabitants did over stones still worn with the tracks from the carts and chariots that tread them nearly 2,000 years ago and even see the graffiti they left behind.
Your officially licensed Pompeii guide will take you to visit the forum, the center of Pompeii's political and social life, as well as view the startling plaster death casts of the victims of the catastrophic eruption that destroyed this Ancient Roman city, ‘freezing’ their last moments forever.
After your adventurous morning exploring Italy’s most renowned ruins, we'll take a leisurely lunch break during which you’ll be able to taste world-famous Neapolitan pizza before heading high above the city and the Bay of Naples aboard the same private coach. Infamous for the destruction of Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD, Mt. Vesuvius* has erupted many times since and is today regarded as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world due to the 3 million people living in its vicinity.
As you wind your way up the roads leading to the summit, you’ll see the lava flows that have scarred the sides of the volcano through the lush volcanic vegetation. From the parking area, it is just a 20-minute hike to the crater on a soft volcanic ash and pumice path to get to the fantastic view from the top. In addition to the panorama of Naples, you will also be able to see the islands of Capri and Ischia in the distance, all from a height of over 4,000 feet.
With Pompeii, Vesuvius* and a traditional pizza lunch, there is no better way to experience these incomparable sights in Naples from Rome.
